Does Treating Depression With Medication Works?

Many people who had suffered from depression are cured by medication. The brain and the nervous system have number of cells which are not connected. But the brain is the one which coordinates with all parts of the body. Brain sends a message according to the stimulus produced in the body. The messages are transferred to all parts of the body by chemical substances known as neurotransmitters. These chemical substances are released from one nerve cell ending to and it travels through space called synapse which is found between the two nerve cells.  Bupropion is the commonly used anti-depressant.

When there are sufficient neurotransmitters in the second nerve cell, the receptors are activated and the message has been transmitted. When the cells which receive the chemical substances do not operate or function properly, depression occurs. Thus the post synaptic cells slowly down their rate of responding. This reduces the messages being passed from one cell to the other. This involves in depression. Mostly all the medication for depression is designed to affect the one or more neurotransmitters and help them to transfer messages quickly through the brain and nervous system.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors known as SSRIs are the most common medication for depression. SSRIs include Prozac, Luvox, Celexa, Paxil and Zoloft. There are some side effects with the medications take for depression.  The SSRIs usually causes nausea, diarrhea, sexual dysfunction and insomnia. The Wellbutrian may cause seizure and insomnia at times. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors like Marplan, Nardil and parnate causes blood pressures change, sexual dysfunction, convulsions, and also liver damage. Most of the people believe that there is a better way than medications to treat depression. But treating or managing depression is not easy either with medications or without medications. Comparatively, medication for depression will be helpful than any other way.
