Losing Up To 100 Hairs Per Day Is
The shedding of 100 hairs per a day while combing or brushing is considered to be normal. This hair loss is the result of the normal hair growth cycle. This is because the hair will grow for certain period, rest for a few months, then they start shedding and again they re grow after some period of time.
The hair growth cycle is made up of three phases. The first phase is called as anagen where the hair grows very healthy. In this phase the hair is grown and embedded deep in the follicle and nourished properly. If this phase is interrupted it leads to hair thinning. Catagen is the second phase in which the hair is about to die and ready to shed off and this is also called as “dead hair” phase. The final phase is called Telogen phase which is also called as Resting phase in which the hair falls out. Usually the hair will remain in this phase for about 90 days and then fall out.
The normal hair growth cycle is noted for 2 to 3 years. The hair is grown approximately one centimeter per month. In the scalp 90 percent of hair is grown at one time. In that 10 percent of the hair will go under resting phase and this resting hair falls and re grow as a new hair after 3 to 4 months.
Thus losing 100 strands of hair per day is considered to be the part of the normal hair growth cycle. However, if the hair loss is more than that you might have to consider being on Finasteride to give way to rejuvenate hair growth. This is ideal for men and it is not appropriate for women due to the mechanism of action of the drugs.
