The process of erection happens when the brain is stimulated through physical and sensory perceptions which relax the penis muscles and increases the blood flow.  The erection is caused by the increased pressure of blood in the penis muscles.

When alcohol is consumed, it dilates the blood vessels and there is increased blood flow causing erection, but the alcohol in the body keeps the blood vessels also allows the blood to drain out.  So, the penis again goes back to its normal position and the erection goes down.  Thus, alcohol consumption hinders with one’s sexual life by causing impotence or sexual dysfunction.
